Dave Walker
Havre de Grace, Maryland
Common Merganser Pair
Dave Walker was born September 10, 1958 in Havre de Grace, Maryland. After graduation he was, by profession a machinist. Dave was given a Jimmy Pierce decoy by his aunt when he was fourteen. He began working for Jimmy Pierce and eventually worked for R. Madison Mitchell. He commented in David & Joan Hagan’s book, Upper Chesapeake Bay Decoys and Their Makers, that the decoy he was given was a drake canvasback and he wanted a hen to go with it. His reason for working for Jimmy was to make a hen. He stated he never got that hen. Over the years, Dave developed a carving style that encompasses a little bit of R. Madison Mitchell, Jimmy Pierce and Charles “Speed” Joiner. The Havre de Grace Museum is proud to announce Dave Walker as the 2010 Honorary Festival Chairman.
